Step 1
To prepare this dessert recipe, place a saucepan over medium flame and heat milk in it. After a boil, dissolve sugar, dry yeast along with saffron while stirring constantly. Now, in a dough kneading plate, mix together all purpose flour, butter and salt. Next, add the saffron milk in the flour mixture and crack the egg in it. Mix once using a spatula and then knead a soft dough. The dough should not be too sticky, but have a stiff consistency. Do not knead too long so that the knots will be nice and soft. Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rest in a warm place for an hour or until it’s doubled in size.

For the filling, stir together butter, sugar, orange zest, cinnamon powder, and 100 grams of ground walnuts in a large bowl until the mixture is creamy. Roll out the dough on a flour-dusted surface into a large and thin rectangle. Spread the orange-butter filling evenly and fold the long sides towards the center which should make the rectangle 1/3 as high as before.

From the short end, cut the dough in 16-18 equal strips and pull and stretch them in the form of loose knots. Wrap the two endings in the knot. Place them on two baking sheets with baking paper and cover them, let the knots rest for 20-30 minutes. Bake the risen knots in a preheated oven at 200 degree Celsius for approximately 8-12 minutes or until golden in colour.
