Fresh off a trip from Japan, chef Manabu Horiuchi will be exploring the world's treasures from the sea.

Mark your calendars, because you don’t want to miss these deliciously fun culinary happenings:

With the holiday season in full swing, The General Public, 797 Sorella, Suite 118, is serving up two of its specialty pies – the Whole Peanut Butter Pie ($27.95) and the Whole Butterscotch Pie ($24.95). The holiday pies are only available for takeout only through December 24.

Inspired by a recent trip to Japan, chef Manabu Horiuchi of Kata Robata,3600 Kirby Drive, has been shopping the world’s seafood markets for treasures from the sea. From now through the next several months, the Horiuchi will showcase his findings on the restaurant’s cutting-edge specials menu. Last week, guests were able to watch the kitchen prepare the strange-lookng flute fish (cornet), and on the menu now and at least for the next several weeks are seared Japanese red barracuda, braised sea eel, several kinds of oysters, caviar, hokkaido scallops, Japanese sea perch, blue fin fatty tuna, and one of the most popular dishes, hay-smoked Japanese skipjack. The fresh deliveries come in almost daily, but here’s a little secret: when it comes to the most adventurous fish specials, the best evening to go fishing is Tuesday, when the more exotic seafood tends to arrive.
