A family that’s run ferries in Northern Michigan for more than a century could soon lose a valuable job.
Michael Grosvenor and Megan Munoz are 4th-generation co-owners of Manitou Island Transit.
The company provides ferry services at Sleeping Bear Dunes National Park, running from Leland to North and South Manitou Islands.
However, their contract with the National Park Service expires at the end of the year.
The agency’s accepting applications for a new company to take over ferry services for the next decade.
The family says it hopes to keep its contract going.
