Kebab is a combination of ground meat, flour or bread crumbs, and various spices cooked on a frying pan or in a grill or tandoor, whereas shawarma is a variant of kebab and is prepared from meat that is roasted vertically.

3. Served differently

Shawarma is served as a wrap inside a bread, whereas kebabs are served on the skewer, directly on a plate, or eaten with rotis and naans.

The word kebab comes from ‘Kababa’, an ancient Aramaic word for “char or burn” whereas shawarma derives its name from an Arabic rendering of Turkish word which means ”turning.”
