In what might come across as good news for consumers, Samsung has confirmed that it will not discontinue its smartwatches Gear S2 and Gear S2 Classic post the launch of Gear S3. The South Korean manufacturer launched its Gear S3 Classic and Gear S3 Frontier smartwatches ahead of IFA on Thursday, and these will be available for sale later this year.
As per a report by Android Central, Samsung is not only going to keep selling its older wearables, it will also provide these watches with software updates in order to bring new features that will come with the newly launched smartwatch.
Samsung’s line of Gear S2 watches retail at major online sites for around $250 to $300 (roughly Rs. 16,737 to Rs. 20,000), which is comparable to pricing for the most basic sports version of the Apple Watch.
It has been further suggested in the report that with the introduction of the Gear S3 smartwatch, the pricing for the earlier smartwatches will take a cut as it usually does with electronic devices.
The new Gear S3 Frontier model sports a rugged outdoor look, while the Classic version carries a more refined appearance, but both watches feature large faces that are aimed primarily at male consumers.
Gear S2 (review), after the expected price cut will become a lucrative option for anyone looking to buy a smartwatch as the watch will carry similar software features to the newly unveiled Gear S3 and will come at a much cheaper price.
