Shannen Doherty’s public battle with breast cancer has become a rallying point for her family and friends. The 45-year-old actress took to Instagram to share with supporters more of her brave journey in battling the disease, which gave way to an endearing photo opportunity.
Doherty’s battle with cancer began in 2015, and the star revealed she had a mastectomy in May 2016, after the cancer began to spread. Now undergoing radiation treatment, Doherty took a moment to thank the staff of the cancer center that’s helping to treat her.
Doherty wrote in the caption of the photo with her medical team:
Thank you Vantage Oncology and Dr Leslie Botnick. Thank you to all that work there, especially Anna, Vince, Mike (pictured here) and Jackie. And a big thank you to Maggie. Everyday you rotated around me, I knew you were zapping the last of those pesky micro cells lingering behind. Here’s hoping I never see you again sweet Maggie!!!”
In an earlier pic, Doherty posed with a radiation machine that she affectionately referred to as Maggie. Doherty shared that she gets treatment five times a week and that it’s been quite an arduous process. In her message, Doherty said that she’s hopeful machines like Maggie will no longer be needed and a cure for breast cancer will be found.
Keep up the good fight, Shannen!
