Kat Von D’s beauty line has taken a small step to help the diversity issue in the beauty industry. And it’s in the form of eyelid primer.
The Kat Von D Lock-It Color Correcting Eyeshadow Primer is brand new and innovative because of the five shade options. Only five, you ask? Well, previously, eyelid primer came in one, “universal” shade. And that shade didn’t work for every skin tone.
Okay, maybe some universal shades work for darker skinned people, but most brands’ one color primer looks off on skin tones that aren’t fair. Eyelid primer is used to keep your eyeshadow in place, but also to correct the color of your eyelids. Eyeshadow looks bolder and more true to the packaging when your eyelid is one even tone. But it’s hard to correct your skin color when the primer doesn’t match your skin. Make sense?
That’s why Kat Von D’s new primer is so exciting. It’s the beauty industry finally starting to realize that one shade does not fit all, and that all girls should be able to find awesome makeup that works for them. Hopefully everyone else just follows suit.
