Having trouble getting up and getting things done in the morning?
Here’s some good news: Superstar productivity might be just a few adjustments away for you. Here are some of the most important, most powerful morning ritual adjustments that have created millionaires and billionaires out of ordinary people.
Adjustment #1: Work Before the World Wakes Up
The rest of the world “wakes up” around 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m., when most office doors open and start doing business. The key is to start working BEFORE that. Even just an hour of interruption-free work, multiplied 5 days a week, can give you an extra six weeks’ worth of work time each year.
Think of what you can accomplish with six extra weeks!
Try this: Start waking up around 6:00 a.m. or earlier, and be working on your most important project by 7:00 a.m. That way, you can get an important chunk of work done even before you receive your first work-related email or text message.
Adjustment #2: Have a Proper Breakfast
Ask yourself right now: What kind of breakfast makes you jump out of bed and troop right to the kitchen?
For some people, it’s the smell of bacon or coffee. For others, it’s a bowl of their favorite cereal and berries. Still others get perked up by the smell and taste of pancakes and waffles, cooked exactly the way mom did back in the day. Still, others love the idea of trooping to Starbucks for breakfast.
Describe your own ideal “power breakfast.” Write it down, then make preparations for tomorrow morning. A proper breakfast fills you with ENERGY and a GOOD MOOD, both of which will lend itself to massive productivity for the rest of the day.
Adjustment #3: Write Down Your Two Most Important Projects
On the breakfast table, take a small piece of paper and write down your two most important projects and/or tasks for the day.
Take note: These should be the projects/tasks most important to YOU, not to other people. These should be the undertakings that will impact your long-term growth, success, and happiness… and not something that just “needs to be done ASAP.”
Writing them down brings FOCUS into your morning because it’s so much easier to get things done when you know what you’re doing.
And lastly…
Adjustment #4: Work on Other People’s Emergencies Later
E-mail. Text messages. Facebook. Online news. All of these have one thing in common: They all flood your life with other people’s emergencies.
Now, you probably can’t get away from all these emergencies. That’s fine. The key is to NOT spend any time or attention on them before 9:00 a.m., or until you’ve finished working on the most important projects on your list.
Quick tip: If you find it hard to stay out of your inbox for a few hours each morning, then simply turn off the Internet for a while. You’ll be surprised at how much more productive you’ll become.
Make the Adjustments for Tomorrow Morning
Even one of these adjustments will make you much more productive. Which one can you make tomorrow morning? Pick one and go for it – and start making your mornings the best part of your days.
